If you are a company looking to generate business on a local level (a town or perhaps a county) then you need to make sure that you get your Google Places listings up to date with the right content to be optimised for Google.

What is Google Places?

When you do a local search on Google, including a town name, then often (but not always) local listings will appear, together with a map in the top right hand corner. For example, try a search for ‘Plumber Horsham’ (see results below). The Local listings are the results that have ‘Place Page’ or ‘1 Google review’ next to them.

If you click on ‘Place page’ link it will then take you to the Google Places listing for that company. In order to come up high you need to have the relevant information about your products, services and company to be ‘selected by Google’. Adding photos, videos are great and getting reviews will all help get you up higher on the searches.

If you are not sure how to change your listing, find your page and click on ‘Owner Verified Listing’ or ‘Edit this Place’ in the top right.
