Client Case Study: Company Specialising

in Biometric Facial Recognition Systems

Background: based in Northampton, our client designs booths for Biometric Facial recognition equipment. The technology measures key parts of the face and can confirm the ID of individuals. It is used widely in the building industry to help stamp out fraud.

  • The company initially bought a standard Horsell product which was designed for use mounted horizontally in plasterboard ceilings – the unit measured 600mm x 300mm (a standard module size)

  • They wall mounted two units vertically into the wall of each booth (not dissimilar to a photo booth). The individual sits in the booth and the facial recognition equipment measures key points on the face

  • The lighting fitting is integral to lighting up the face

After a while, the company contacted us because they wanted a change of diffuser, a smaller sized body and a unit that could be wall mounted. They visited our factory and together we developed a suitable sized unit. We then looked at various diffuser options (including polarising lenses) – the choice of diffuser material is crucial because too much glare reflects on peoples’ glasses.

We eventually recommended a plain opal acrylic diffuser panel. Our client also wanted guidance on the best lamp for the job. We recommended a Philips ‘ activiva’ 24W T5 lamp – a very new lamp that gives excellent daylight colour rendering.

The new lighting fitting is now a standard unit for our client. We have provided over 200 of these items, in the last month alone completing 2 orders, totalling 48 units – for installation in 24 new booths.
