Client Case Study: Private Hospital Group

Background: this private hospital was aware that their current lighting system in the corridors was not patient friendly. Patients risked being dazzled by the lighting above them as they were being taken to the operating theatre. The project management team with a remit to develop a bespoke clean room fitting solution approached us.

• This was a clean room fitting with a difference. Our client wanted an indirect/direct lighting effect that could be incorporated into an IP54 sealed fitting (indirect/direct is when you can’t see the lamp. The light output from the tube bounces off the back of the fitting, to give an even, soft and pleasant lighting effect)

• There are many benefits to this type of lighting: not only is it nice and soft, you never get dazzled when looking at the fitting. However insects can get trapped inside and more fittings are generally needed over the standard type of lighting, to give a sufficient level of lighting

• Following design approval by our client, we made a prototype of the SCIS, a screwed/gasketted fitting with a panel of clear acrylic or polycarbonate, mounted in a sealed frame (making it insect proof) Behind this was the indirect/direct section which held two x 40 W PLL lamps

• This gave excellent light control, and it enabled the maintenance team to easily clean the surface of the fitting, something that is fundamental in a clean and sterile environment

Such has been the success and demand for this unit that we have now incorporated it into our standard range. This product has been installed into hospitals, clean rooms and food preparation environments. We have recently completed a project to supply 200 of these fittings to the Northwick Park Hospital.
