Client Case Study: Taylors of Harrogate

Background: We have many years experience providing lighting for clean rooms, food preparation areas and hospitals. In 2007, we provided rear access lighting for a clean room installation in County Durham. Our customer approached as again, asking if we could provide a quotation to provide IP65 rear access lighting for a new project at Taylors of Harrogate, who are renowned for their fine teas.

 

Not everything goes smoothly: we quoted for the rear access units, but our customer decided that the cost was too high. We discussed with the customer whether in fact IP65 was necessary or appropriate in the environment. We generally supply IP54 fittings for the food industry and were confident that significant cost savings could be made on the original quote if the fittings could be made with IP54 protection.

 

Our customer agreed and we re-quoted.

 

What the customer wanted

• A recessed fitting to fit a special plasterboard ceiling

• Bespoke side fixing bars to run the length of the luminaire for ease of installation

• A rear access lift off back

• The paint to be powder coated RAL 9016

• A polished aluminium louvre behind a 3 mm clear diffuser

• 54W T5 high-frequency gear
  

 

The customer got.

The project was for a large quantity of units, so we made a sample for the customer to approve. Stuart Rodger, our representative drove to Leeds with the sample, which the customer approved with a few minor changes.

 

We received the order in April 2008 with delivery in mid-August.
